【摘要】:ThispartofIEC60793appliesonlytomultimode,graded-indexglass-core(categoryA1)fibres.Thetestmethodiscommonlyusedinproductionandresearchfacilities,butisnoteasilyaccomplishedinthefield.Thisstandarddescribesamethodforcharacterizingthemodalstructureofagraded-indexmultimodefibre.Thisinformationisusefulforassessingthebandwidthperformanceofafibreespeciallywhenthefibreisintendedtosupportavarietyoflaunchconditionssuchasthoseproducedbystandardizedlasertransmitters.Withthismethod,theoutputfromafibrethatissingle-modeatthetestwavelengthexcitesthemultimodefibreundertest.Theprobespotisscannedacrosstheendfaceofthefibreundertest,andtheopticalpulsedelayisdeterminedatspecifiedoffsetpositions.Tworesultscanbeproducedfromthesamedata.First,thedifferenceinopticalpulsedelaytimebetweenthefastestandslowestmodegroupsofthefibreundertestcanbedetermined.Theuserspecifiestheupperandlowerlimitsofradialoffsetpositionsoverwhichtheprobefibreisscannedinordertospecifydesiredlimitsofmodalstructure.TheDMDdataisthencomparedtoDMDspecificationsthathavebeendeterminedbymodelingandexperimentationtocorrespondtoaminimumEMBforarangeoftransmitters.Second,theopticalpulseshapescanbecombinedusingspecificweightstodetermineacalculatedeffectivemodalbandwidth(EMBc),andbycalculatingasequenceofEMBcvalueswithdifferentsetsofweights,aminimumEMBccanbecalculated,correspondingtoarangeoftransmitters.Thetestquantifiestheeffectsofinteractionsofthefibremodalstructureandthesourcemodalcharacteristicsexcludingthesourcespectralinteractionswithfibrechromaticdispersion.Addingtheeffectsofchromaticdispersionandsourcespectralwidthwillreducetheoveralltransmissionbandwidth,butthisisaseparatecalculationinmosttransmissionmodels.Inthistest,theeffectsofnon-zerospectralwidthareminimizedbutanyresidualeffectswilltendtoincreasetheDMDvalueanddecreasetheEMBcvalue.
